There was a time when if you had stained teeth or a little chip, a small gap, or a tooth shorter than the rest, there was virtually nothing you could do about it, or if you could fix it, the fix was clunky and noticeable. Well, those days are gone.
Advancements in dental science have come up with many solutions, the most popular of which are veneers. Veneers are thin slices of porcelain that slip over your tooth and are cemented in place. They look great and can fix many minor dental imperfections. As a bonus, they are not as expensive as some alternatives.
What Is So Great About Dental Veneers?
Our patients probably like most veneers that look just like natural teeth. However, once we have them in place, you can’t tell the difference between the veneer and the natural teeth in your mouth. One of the reasons for this is the material with which it’s made, and the other reason is that we can match the veneers to the color of your natural teeth. This is a big plus, mainly if you use veneers to cover badly stained teeth.
The next good thing about veneers is that they act like natural teeth. So although you don’t want to use the tooth covered with a veneer as a tool, as you may know, aside from that, they perform just like your natural teeth.
Another benefit is that they are permanent. We prepare your tooth to accept the veneer and cement It in place. Once that is completed, your tooth is permanent. If you suffer from bruxism, clenching, or grinding your teeth, you may have to wear a mouth guard at night to protect your veneers. Though they are permanent and robust, they are not natural teeth, and nothing can compare to the strength of your natural teeth.
